When considering moving to a new neighborhood, factoring in your commute time is important. Whether driving to work or running errands, you will want to be within a convenient distance to places that are important to you. There are several simple smartphone apps that can be used to calculate commute time and avoid traffic.
- Google Maps – Google Maps helps you plan your travels and organize your schedule. In addition to turn-by-turn directions, it offers you a route planner with directions and estimated commute time for those walking, biking, driving, or taking public transportation.
- Citymapper – Citymapper is a public transit app and mapping service which displays transport options, usually with live timing, between any two locations in a supported city. It aggregates all local transit data such as departures and stop locations and allows you to compare transit pricing across all journeys.
- Waze – Waze shows real-time traffic and road information while allowing users to tag things such as traffic, accidents, and police officers for other users to see. This app also gives you expected arrival time and reported gas prices.
These apps are available to download for free on the App Store and Google Play.
